Blackards Recorded in The British Isles

The name "Aldric the Blackheart" was recorded in The Domesday Book (1086) prepared by William The Conqueror. Perhaps this is the earliest record of our family other than rumor of a settlement in Denmark supposedly called Blackaarde. Our Blackard family appears to have come into Lincolnshire in eastern England from Denmark. The Danes arrived there on the Humber River near the Viking city of York at the end of the 9th century.

Nothing more has been found recorded for Blackard until the oldest surviving parish records of Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Somerset England dating to the mid-16th and early 17th centuries and varying from place to place. But Blackards may have lived in those areas for centuries.

Two female Blackards were recorded in the UK Census of 1881. No Blackards were found on the UK 1999 Electoral Register.
