Peter Blackboard
was named on 1665 Maryland land patent.[1]
One of the men who transported John Blachard/Blackard
to Virginia in 1643, Richard Tye, was born in 1623 in England. He died in 1666
in Charles Co Maryland. So it is possible that the John Blackard worked in 4-7
year indenture in Maryland.
A Elizabeth Blackard was transported to Annapolis, Maryland and named in a 1668 land grant. [1] There was a waiting period after actual transportation of individuals so here actual arrival was before 1668. In Virginia the waiting period was 7 years.
An Elizabeth Blackband was transported to Maryland in 1752 from England.[2]
Some of the descendents of Carroll Blackard have a family legend that the first American Blackard of their knowledge was a Thomas Jackson Blackard who was said to have arrived at Maryland or North Carolina.
A this time, sufficient research of the Maryland records has not been accomplished. If the first immigrant Blackard of our line was an indentured servant then Maryland or Virginia are the most likely places that he would have arrived because endentured servants were in extremely high demand by the planters living there.
