Here's a 25 year man who says "building odds and ends" is his hobby yet he recently completed a 3Oxl6 foot swimming pool. Henry D. Blackard who is Shift SuperƯvisor in Solution Preparation SecƯtion also likes to garden and work with motors and television in his spare time.Henry joined the company and started working in Throwing back in '33. He was later made foreman in Research, Day Supervisor in Acrylic Staple pilot plant and is now in Solution Prep. He's a native of Toms Creek, Virginia, graduated from High School in Salem, Virginia and married the former Nancy Boyd of Stuarts Draft. The Blackards have three children: Margaret, 17, who gradƯuated from Wilson Memorial in the spring and is now attending Dunsmore Business College; Paul, 16, a senior at Wilson Memorial, and Steven, nine, in elementary school at Stuarts Draft. The BlackƯards are members of the Calvary Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft.
Henry feels that Du Pont is one of the "top companies."
During his 25 year stay he comƯpleted a period of 12 years without any sickness or injury.

JOHN SANDERS ETTER, age 81 of Rural Retreat, Virginia, died Sunday January 21, 2001, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia (the west fork of Reed Creek), the son of the late Guy S. and Ada Blackard Etter. Mr. Etter was a well known Wythe County farmer, a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, a combat veteran of the U.S. Army, WW II and a member of the Rural Retreat American Legion Post # 229. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Cassell Etter and one sister, Lucille Newman. He is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law - Sandy and Debra Etter of Tazewell, Virginia; one grandson - Stewart Sanders Etter; one granddaughter - Sarah Katheryn Etter; two sisters - Verna Ager of Wytheville, VA and Jessie Etter of Rural Retreat, VA; two brothers - Col. Hal G. Etter of Helotes, Texas and Fred Etter of Rural Retreat, VA; special niece - Lisa Etter Thompson of Rural Retreat, VA; special friend - Blair Whitt of Wytheville, VA and several other nieces and nephews also survive.*********************************************************************

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Jenkins, the Rev. Tony Perry, and the Rev. Jared Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with Graveside Military Rites being conducted by Wytheville American Legion Post #9. The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is in charge of arrangements.
