The Blackard "First Family" - Mary Blackard (est 1780 - ????)

The existance of this Mary Blackard is confirmed but identifying her as a daughter of Charles Blackard is solely my opinion. However, no other potential Blackard father for her has ever been identified.

The marriage bond for Mary Blackard and John Layton was recorded in Person County on November 16, 1798. Their bondsman was John Paine. That is only 6 years after Job Blackard was married in Caswell and J. Womack was the witness for both marriages and most others in the area.

Estimating that she was 18 at the time of marriage, as was common for the day, gives her an estimated birth year of 1780.

She is the right age to have been one of the daughters listed for Elizabeth Bradway [Blackard?] in the 1790 U.S. Census in Franklin County, NC. This Elizabeth Bradway was possibly the widow of Charles Blackard I.
