The Blackard "First Family" - Margaret "Molly" Blackard
(est 1760 - ????)
The existance of this Margaret (Molly) Blackard is speculative and identifying
her as a daughter of Charles Blackard is solely my opinion. However, there
is information that supports her existance.
The marriage bond for a Molley Blackman [Blackard?] to William Cooper
was recorded on October 5,1779 in Franklin County, NC. The marriage bondsman
was Vincent Bodine. Earlier in January of that same year, Bodine sold
114 acres of land to Charles Blackard II near the Tar River. Cooper also
lived nearby.
An actual Blackman family lived in Franklin a few decades earlier, however,
I believe that Molly was a Blackard and that her name was misspelled.
Spelling in these early NC records was very unreliable.
Willoughby also appears to have named his oldest daughter Margaret perhaps
after a sister of the same name.
