The Blackard "First Family" - Job Blackard (est 1766 - 1799/1800)

According to an heirloom family Bible in Person County, North Carolina Job Blackard was born on December 16, 1766. Since Charles Blackard I was listed for taxes in Bute County, North Carolina in 1766, Bute County is his likely place of birth. Bute County was a part of old Granville County that later became Warren and Franklin.

Job apparently followed his older brother Charles II to Caswell County and Job and William are both listed for taxes for the first time in 1787 but Charles II disappeared from Caswell records. Job remained in that area for the rest of his life, however, the St. Lukes District of Caswell County was moved to the newly formed Person County.

Job married Jean Hargis in 1792 in Caswell County.

Job is listed for taxes in 1793 and 1795 in Person County, NC. Person County is an area that moved from old Granville to Orange and then to Caswell before becoming Person County.

Job is recorded on various land deeds in Person County accumuluting 177 acres, eventually.

Unfortunately Job died young at the age of 44 as his estate was filed in Person County, NC in 1800.

Job's widow Jean is listed in the 1805 Person County tax list.

Job's descendents moved west in 1820-1840 to TN and then to MI, OK and AR. Only the descendents of his grandson Thomas Washington Blackard stayed in Person County where they are found today.
