1643 John Blachard/Blackard transported to Virginia

1663 Charter by Charles of England redefined the earlier "Carolina" region as a propriety, under the control of eight wealthy English proprietors.

1668 Bridget Blackhead married in Barbados. Elizabeth Blackard transported to Maryland.

1670 Chowan County, Carolina formed from Albemarle Co (no longer exists)

1675 Estimated birth of Elizabeth Blancharedt in Virginia.

1680s Sugar boom begins in Barbados.

1683 Francis Blackard born (place unknown).

1690 Settlers begin arriving in Albemarle region which later became Chowan County NC.

1693 Marriage of Elizabeth Blancharedt in Henrico, Virginia.

1702 Francis Blackard married in Barbados

1706/1711 Charles Blackard born according to my estimates

1712 Carolinas divided into North and South Carolina.

1715 Edenton, oldest town in NC, established in Chowan County, NC.

1715 Francis Blackard in Barbados census with 3-year old son (born 1711/2)

1717 Scot-Irish begin to leave northern Ireland in large numbers. Some arrive in South Carolina in 1718. No other large-scale immigration to South Carolina until about 1777.

1720 One family legend says Blackard family left Glasgow, Scotland where they had arrived via Ireland, eventually to arrive in America in Pennsylvania. (Other family legends say Charleston, South Carolina)

1720s Barbados settlers begin leaving as sugar boom ends.

1722 Bertie County NC formed from Chowan

1723 Francis Blackard witnesses baptism of daughter of John Willoughby in Barbados

1726 Settlers begin arriving in Bertie County NC area down from Virginia and down the Kings Highway from Maryland and New Jersey.

1726 First land grants in Edgecombe Precinct around Town Creek.

1728 Seven of the eight Lord Proprietors of Carolina sell their property to the crown.

1728 First land grant to Edward Moseley in Edgecombe Precinct, NC Fishing Creek area.

1728 Charles Blackard thought to have been born according to nephew of Kate Blackard.

1732 First settlers in Tarboro area come downriver from Virginia.

1733-1755 William Blackard born in Virginia sometime during this timeframe.

1735 Settlers from Pennsylvania who arrived with Penn start moving down the Fall Line Road through Virginia from Pennsylvania. The Fall Line Road lead from from Fredericksburg VA, down to Richmond, VA., to Petersburg,VA and through Warrenton Granville County, NC.

1735 Scot-Irish begin mass immigration into Wilmington NC port and settle on Cape Fear River.

1740 A few families were located on the Hico, Eno, and Haw rivers in the territory just east of Rowan in NC.

1741 Edgecombe County NC formed from western Bertie Co

1744 Property of remaining Lord Proprietor, Earl Granville, granted by George II. Very first settlers in region that becomes Randolph, Guilford, and Rockingham counties.

1744 Indian treaty opens the Great Wagon Road for settlement from Pennsylvania down to Salisbury NC (Rowan County).

1745 The Scotch-Irish had established themselves between the Yadkin and the Catawba Rivers in Rowan County area.

1746 Granville County,NC was formed from Edgecombe County

1746 Rebels expelled from Scotland to America in large numbers after Civil War. Many arrive at Wilmington NC.

1748-1763 Granville Land Grants created the first privately-owned property in North Carolina.

1748 J. Blacker [John or James Blackard?] witnesses Edgecombe County land deed on Fishing Creek. He possibly could have been the father of Charles Blackard.

1750 First permanent home in Orange County, NC area by Pennsylvania settler.

1751 A large-scale relocation of settlers from Pennslyvania into Rowan County, NC and the region to the east that becomes Orange County begins and peaks about 1754. Population soars to 4000 in 1751 and is the most-populated area in NC for many years afterwards.

1752 Orange County, North Carolina is formed.

1753 Rowan County and St. Luke's Parish separated off of Anson County.

1754 Granville County Militia formed.

1756 Granville land grant to Samuel Williams names Charles Blackard as chain bearer in Edgecombe County Fishing Creek area. He is the first Blackard recorded in America to date.

1757 Charles Blackard on 1757 Granville County tax list.

1758 Willoughby Blackard is born to Charles Blackard in region of Granville County, NC that later becomes Bute County.

1758 Halifax County NC formed from Northern Edgecombe Co

1764 Bute County, North Carolina was formed. William Blackard was born on or before 1764 estimated from him being at least 21 to witness a 1785 will.

1762 Charles Blackard lived in Shocco District of Bute County on Mill Br and Tar River On tax list there.

1762 Thomas Blackett on Tax List for Rowan County

1764 James Blanchet on Bertie County Tax List.

1766 Charles Blackard recorded in Bute County tax list.

1766 Job Blackard is born in Bute County to Charles Blackard. Charles is on 1766 Bute tax list.

1767 Thomas Blackett on Tax List for Rowan County

1768 Charles Blackam [Blackard] is recorded as a witness on 14 March 1768 for a Bute County land deed.

1764 James Blanchard on Bertie County Tax List.

1775 Willoughby enlisted in Virginia Militia in Virginia and fought at Battle of Great Bridge.

1776 Willoughby enlisted in the revolutionary army while living in Bute County (previously Granville).

1776 Land where Charles was then living on Turkey Creek and Macon Branch in Bute Co is sold and he has to move

1777 Willoughby fought at Battle of Germantown on 4 October 1777 under George Washington.

1777 Caswell County fromed from Orange County (including St. Lukes District). Land that Charles Blackard is living on in Bute County is sold and he has to move.

1778 Charles Blackard is bondsman on a marriage bond for Frances Self Snow dated 1 Jan. 1778 in Butte Co. NC.

1778 Charles Blackard II buys 114 acres in Bute(Franklin/Vance) County and resells it the next year in 1779.

1779 Bute County is abolished and becomes Warren and Franklin Counties.

1780 Charles Blackard II is married to Nancy Vermillion (b.1750) in Guilford Co, NC .
This wedding is witnessed by a William Blackard.

1780 Caswell County St. Luke's District tax list includes Charles Blackard [II]

1780 Willoughby taken prisoner at the battle of Stone Ferry at Charleston, South Carolina.

1780 Willoughby released and in battle of Gate's Defeat on 16 August 1780

1781 Willoughby was in Battle of Guilford Courthouse on 16 March, 1781.

1781 Willoughby was in Battle of Camden on 26 April 1781

1781 Willoughby was in Battle of Eutaw Springs on 8 September 1781 under General Greene

1781 Willoughby discharged from army on Nov. 15, 1781 at age 23.

1783 Charles Blackard I married Betty Henderson on 05 Aug 1783 in Granville County, North Carolina.

1785 In Caswell County E. Blanchett proves a will and Bill Blanchard witnesses it. This is possibly the wife and son of Charles Blackard I, Betty Henderson Blackard and William Blackard.

1786 Caswell County St. Luke's District Charles Blackard [II] with 176 Acres of land - 1 White Poll

1787 Willoughby appears on the Caswell County, St. Lukes District, NC tax list

1788 Willoughby appears on the Caswell County, St. Lukes District, NC tax list

1789 Jobe Blackard appears on the Caswell County, St. Lukes District, NC tax list.

1789 William Blackard appears on the Caswell County, St. Lukes District, NC tax list.

1790 January 1790 land deed proved by Charles Rattray. This appears to be the last record of Charles Blackard I. His name had frequently been misspelled as Battran, Rattran, Rattray.

1790 Willibee Blackheart [Willoughby Blackard] in first U.S. census in Rowan County, NC. It is still unclear if this is the same Willoughby Blackard.

1790 William Blackard in first U.S. census in Orange County, NC.

1790 Neither Charles Blackard I or II listed on 1790 Census. Charles I must have died before the census and perhaps Charles II is in transition to Guilford County he is recorded in 1800.

1790 Franklin, NC census lists: Eliza Bradway (age 47) with herself + 1 male under 16 + 3 other white females. This is possibly Betty Henderson Blackard and Aaron Blackard.

1791 Willube Blackhart [Willoughby Blackard] on Davie Distict Rowan County tax list.

1792 Caswell County marriage bond for Jobe Blackard and Jean Hargis.

1792 Person County formed from Caswell County (including St. Lukes District)

1793 Job Blackerd on Person County NC Tax List

1794 Tax List lists Job Blackard in St. Lukes District Person County with 0 land in Acres and 1 White Polls

1794 Possibly date of birth of son, Eli Blackard to Charles Blackard II and Nancy Vermillion

1797 E. Blanshard recorded as buyer at Franklin Co. estate sale of David Jeffreys near where Charles lived. This is probably Betty Henderson Blackard.

1798 Land deed for 137 acres on Flat River to Job Blackard.

1799 Person County, NC 40 acres granted on Dec 6, 1799 to Job Blackard .

1799 Job Blackard died in Person Co, NC.

1800 Franklin County Court Order for Elizabeth Blanchard to sell part of deceased's estate to pay debts. This is possibly Betty Henderon Blackard.

1800 Charles Blachard II is reported in the 1800 Guilford county census as head of household in 1800.

1800 Person County, NC estate settlement for Job Blackard (deceased).

1801 (or before) Franklin County, NC estate settlement for E. Blanchard [possibly Betty Henderson Blackard] includes A. Blanshard among buyers [possibly Aaron Blackard].
