Samuel Williams
The Williams family, of Welsh descent, settled on the York River in Virginia
sometime prior to 1645. John Williams appears to be the common ancestor of Samuel
Williams who settled in Edgecombe NC, James Williams who settled in Meckenburg/Lunenburg
VA and Col. Jon Williams who settled in Granville County. Also according to
"Colonial Granville County and it's Peoples" he was first recorded
in York Virginia on Queen's Creek in 1685 with his family. This is close toYorktown
and across the river from Glouchester County. A group of families from the Queen's
Creek, York VA area were among the first settlers of Granville County, NC (and
later Caswell Co) and also include some of its most-prominent families including:
WILLIAMS, HENDERSON, HARRISON, EATON.
