James Bisse
JOHN BLACKARD
CHARLES BLANCHVILLE
Robert Lucy
Charles Sparrow & Richard Tye
Thomas Taylor
Robert Lucy was married to the Sarah Barker the daughter of William Barker
who founded Merchant's Hope plantation in the portion of Charles City County
south of the James River that is not Prince George County, Virginia.
CHARLES BLANCHEVILLE apparently sued the estate of Robert Lucy
in 1688. From
the nature of other court records, it seems this might have been for wages
due or a share of a tobacco crop. In any case this suggests that CHARLES
BLANCHEVILLE lived near Lucy.
James Wallace had a 1674 headrights grant bounded by the Blackwater Swamp
and Robert Lucy's land, including headrights for Thomas
Taylor. This was
apparently a resale/transfer of the headrights for Taylor from Sparrow &
Tye.
Thomas Taylor was originally named on the same 1650 headrights grant to
Charles Sparrow & Richard Tye as JOHN BLACKARD.
Evidently, a man whose name was recorded numerous times in Charles City and
Henrico as CHARLES BLACHEVILLE must have been a neighbor and associate. The
largest portion of the cases in the Charles City court minutes of this time
appear to have involved disputes over division of tobacco crops. For that
reason, I suspect the following court minutes entry mentioning CHARLES
BLANCHEVILLE and the estate of Robert Lucy concerned the division of a
tobacco crop.
In Charles City County, VA Court Orders 1687-1695, page 149:
"At a court holden at Westover 3 August 1688 page 181 CHA. BLANCHEVILLE
has
order agst Capt. James Bisse as merrying Adm'x of Robert Lucy, dec'd, for 2
days attendance at court"
Robert Lucy's sister, Mary Lucy was born about 1680 in Charles City
and died about 1719 in Prince George County.
Mary Lucy was married twice:
(1) Thomas Anderson m. abt 1695, Charles City Co, VA
(2) CORNELIUS CARGILL m. 1713, Prince George County, VA
