Around the time John Blackard was recorded in Charles City Virginia, the Charles City County Court Orders contains approximately 40 entries for what appears to have been a father and son both named John Lett. John Lett was recorded in Prince George in 1714. He starts being recorded in both Brunswick VA and Edgecombe NC in 1747-1756. He was recorded on the same 1755 Edgecombe survey as Charles Blackard. Then in 1762 Charles Blackard witnessed the will of John Lett in Granville NC.

Then in 1762 Charles Blackard witnessed the will of John Lett in
Granville/Bute NC. This indicates that they were friends. Charles Blackard
I appears to have been last recorded on the 1766 Bute tax list, so he too
may have died not long after his friend John Lett. If John Lett was the son
of William Lett of Barbados then his lifespan was bef.1697-1762.
