Cornelius Cargill was born in about 1681 in Perthshire in the central lowlands of Scotland. He died in 1763 in Cornwall, Lunenberg Co., VA.

"Cornelius was residing in Westover Parish, Prince George County, Virginia by 1712. He sold out in 1713 and removed to Wayanoke Parish. By April, 1719, he was living in Martins Brandon Parish."

Cornelius Cargill witnessed the 1721 Prince George Co, Va deed to Thomas House for property adjoining Charles Blancherd. Between 1726 and 1734 Cargill moved down to Brunswick County, Virginia.Cornelius Cargill was also recorded in Brunwick County in 1735 and 1745. Then Cargill was recorded in the newly-formed Lunenburg county tax lists in 1748,1749,1750,1752. His widow filed her will in Lunenburg in 1757.

p.468 June 14, 1721 Thomas House of Surry to John Hardyman of Pr. Geo. Co.
for L 10, 50 acres in Pr. Geo. Co. in Martins Brandon Parish, bounded by
CHARLES BLANCHERD, Blackwater Swamp. "said 50 acres (something seems to have
been omitted here by the clerk after these three words, as the rest seems to
refere to a larger tract from whidh the 50 acres originiated)" bearing date
20th April 1682 containing 292 acres, conveyed by said Mecham to the said
Thomas Harrison and Elinor his wife as by conveyance dated 30the July 1686
will appear"

THIS INDENTURE made the First Day of February, in the Year of our Lord Christ, One Thousand, Seven hundred and Twenty Six, Between Cornelius Cargill of the Parrish of Martin Brandon in the County of Prince George of the one part, and Robert Hunnicutt of the Parrish and County aforesaid of the other part…

…one tract or parcell of Land containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres, be the same more or less, together with all houses, orchards and appurtenances to the said one hundred and fifty acres of Land belonging, or in any way wise appertaining, and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders of all and singular the premises, and every part and parcell thereof, which said bargained and sold lands and premises are situate, lying and being on the south side of the Cattail Swamp, on the north side of the Blackwater Swamp, and on both sides of the Reedy Branch of the said Cattail Swamp, in the Parrish and County aforesaid, and formerly were in the tenure, holding, and occupation of one Thomas Anderson now deceased, and by James Anderson and Charles Anderson two of the sons of the said Thomas Anderson after his decease sold and conveyed to the said Cornelius Cargill and to his heirs forever that is to say, One hundred and five acres of the aforesaid Land was sold and conveyed to the said Cornelius Cargill, by the aforesaid James Anderson, by Deed dated the fourteenth Day of April, One thousand seven hundred and nineteen, and the same day acknowledged and recorded in the records of the said County Court. And the residue of the aforesaid tract of land was sold and conveyed to the said Cargill by the aforesaid Charles Anderson by Deed dated the Tenth Day of March, One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighteen and the same Day acknowledged, and recorded in the records of the County Court aforesaid, as by the said Deeds relation being thereunto had, will appear. Which said one hundred and fifty acres of land are bounded according to the ancients and known bounds thereof, and as in the aforesaid Deeds is mentioned…

Carol Middleton's Research on Hamlin-Taylor:

* Richard Taylor, born 1664, Charles City County, VA. On 11/03/1673,
on the Blackwater, behind Merchants Hope at a place called Saw Tree,
beginning at a swamp nigh the house, given to him be the will of his
father Richard Taylor 07/15/1672. Married ?. Died 12/1694 in Charles
City County, VA.

Richard Taylor owned a 1673 patent along the Blackwater River,
Charles City County, at a plantation called "Saw Tree". This estate
was left by his brother John Taylor to Elizabeth Duke in 1709.

* Elizabeth Taylor. Married John Hamlin, son of Stephen and Agnes
Hamlin. Their children: John Hamlin (d. 1725), William Hamlin (,
Hannah Hamlin (d. 1752, Surry Co, VA), Lucy Hamlin (m. William Eppes),Sarah
Hamlin (m. Rev. John Cargill), Elizabeth Hamlin (m. Thomas Ravenscroft; d.
after 1720). Elizabeth died before 1720, Prince George Co, VA.

 

William Barker was master and captain of the ships "America" and "Ye
Merchant's Hope" and was in Virginia as early as 1625. Most of his land
transactions were for transporting colonists to Virginia.

In 1637 and 1639, William Barker was named on two different land patents in
Henrico County which bordered Charles City/Prince George to the west.

In 1637 William Barker patented 600 acres in Charles City formerly bounded
by Capt. Nathaniel Powell's land. William Barker and his Associates &
Company patented 1850 acres in Charles City Co, VA 600 acres formerly called
Powelbrooke.

William Barker married Frances Ward.

Their daughter was Sarah Barker was married three times and her husbands were:
(1) Richard Taylor
(2) ROBERT LUCY
(3) JAMES BISSE

In Charles City County, VA Court Orders 1687-1695, page 149:

"At a court holden at Westover 3 August 1688 page 181 CHA. BLANCHEVILLE has
order agst Capt. James Bisse as merrying Adm'x of Robert Lucy, dec'd, for 2
days attendance at court"

Robert Lucy's sister, Mary Lucy was born about 1680 in Charles City
and died about 1719 in Prince George County.

Mary Lucy was married twice:

(1) Thomas Anderson m. abt 1695, Charles City Co, VA
(2) CORNELIUS CARGILL m. 1713, Prince George County, VA

John Cargill, minister, thought to be brother of Cornelius Cargill married
Sarah Hamlin.
